Looking for a fun activity for an afternoon off from school? Learn about Leonardo da Vinci, build a self-sustaining bridge. Known primarily as an artist, Leonardo da Vinci was also a scientist and engineer who inventions were way ahead of his time.
Leonardo da Vinci’s self-supporting bridge was a remarkable feat of engineering. It required no nails or ropes to hold it together and could be carried into any battlefield and assembled by just a handful of men.
In this fun and challenging STEM program, you will attempt to build your own da Vinci Bridge using craft sticks as a substitute for interlocking wooden planks.
Space and supplies are limited so registration is required for this program. This program is best suited to ages 8 and up.

Join us for an afternoon with Angie Kim, critically acclaimed and bestselling author of “Miracle Creek” and “Happiness Falls.”
Join Olney Library for an exciting program with award-winning and local author Angie Kim. Ms. Kim has written two highly regarded works of fiction: Miracle Creek (published 2019; international bestseller and winner, Edgar Award for Best First Novel) and Happiness Falls (published 2023; NY Times bestseller, New American Voices Award finalist and Good Morning America Book Club pick). Happiness Falls will be adapted for television by actor/writer Ethan Hawke.
Ms. Kim will share how she become a writer, after pursuing other successful careers. She’ll talk about her writing craft/process, and how her legal background and personal experiences raising her children shaped the content of her books. As a local writer, Ms. Kim will discuss her start at the Writer’s Center in Bethesda and other resources she drew on early in her career. Q&A and light refreshments to follow. Copies of her books will be available for purchase/signing.
No registration is required but seating is limited.

Join us for a creepy afternoon of crafting skeletons!
October is spooky month! Join us for a creepy, fun afternoon where we will be making articulated skeleton hands! We will also craft full skeletons with cotton swabs.
This hands-on program provides children with the opportunity to not only use their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to achieve a result, but this activity will also stimulate your child’s crativity and imagination, while helping them develop critical fine motor skills.
This program is designed for children 6 years old and older. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Ms. Stef has 30 years of experience as a music teacher and performer and specializes in infant/toddler and preschool music and movement.
This program is for babies, toddler and preschool-aged children. Adult must accompany children under 8 years of age.

It’s electric! Take part in the Maryland STEM Fesitval and join us for an afternoon of fun as we learn about electricity with paper circuits.
Spark your interest in STEM with paper circuits! You can create paper crafts, elevated with LED lights! This hands-on program will provide children with the opportunity to use their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to achieve a result.
This program is part of the annual Maryland STEM Festival.
