The term for the selected student will begin in August 2025. The next deadline for application materials is March 31, 2025. Eligible students should be entering 11th grade in the fall of 2025. Applications will re-open in January 2025.

Student Representatives to the Board of Trustees gain valuable insight and experience related to areas of nonprofit organizations, nonprofit boards and governance, leadership, and community involvement. While not a voting member of the Board of Trustees, the student representative will impact how FOLMC determines programs and enhancements with particular focus for how to best serve the teen population in Montgomery County.

This is a two-year term that begins in the student’s junior year of high school. The student representative position requires that the student work on his/her own, independent of board meetings. SSL hours are available. The student must track all hours for community service and is responsible for filling out the appropriate paperwork with his/her school.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Have parental/guardian permission to serve.
  • A resident of Montgomery County.
  • Attend a high school located in Montgomery County.
  • Entering 11th grade at the beginning of their term.
  • Have an active email account for board communications purposes.

Expectations:

  • Attend at least three out of four quarterly board meetings each year for a total of six board meetings during the student’s two-year tenure.
  • Participate in community activities that support FOLMC as a representative of the board.
  • Attend activities sponsored by the organization such as events and programs.
  • Develop or expand a project or program that supports FOLMC during their two-year term.

Preferred applicants have a passion for literature, writing, community service, nonprofit organizations, and/or library services.
