FILM: Ain’t No Back to A Merry-Go-Round by Emmy Award-Winning Director Ilana Trachtman
In 1960, five black students from Howard University sat on a carousel at the Glen Echo Amusement Park and were arrested. Protests ensued in the community. Picketers included members of the Freedom Riders and it was the first organized interracial civil rights protest in the United States. This activism eventually led to the desegregation of the Glen Echo Amusement Park. The result of this activism is documented in this poignant film.
Ilana Trachtman, the filmmaker, will be available for questions and discussion after the film.
This program will happen in the first floor meeting room.
